I am based in Salisbury, Wiltshire where i live out near Old Sarum. From an early age I was introduced to choral music instilling a good understanding of musical structure which led me onto to learning Trumpet, Pianoforte and the Church Organ. My examinations (including Music Theory) have all been taken through the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music to Grade 8. In my short lifetime so far, I've achieved several Top Music Scholarships allowing me to experience musical performance in many different environments and including many different musical genres, in many different countries. This ranges from baroque organ compositions, accompanying classical string quartets, performing solo piano works, right the way through cover music from the present day within a 5 piece function band. I am very versatile and able to learn pieces fairly quickly for special occasions should they not be known to me. I have also studied a professional music course which included performance modules for Piano and Trumpet. I was also the Parochial Organ Scholar for the parish of Dartmouth from 1998-2000.
More recently, I have been working for the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) and have been a Staff member and workshop tutor and demonstrator of how to use different types of instruments within church Worship, and how to arrange music for different groups of instruments and skill sets and abilities. I also love using my trusty Roland for session recording and sampling as well.
In addition, I have performed as a piano, trumpet, and Bass/Baritone soloist, accompanied and directed various choral and instrumental groups and reception bands across the south of England, and continue to accompany choirs and music groups here in Salisbury. I have the pleasure of teaching and enabling individuals of ALL ages and abilities, and pride myself in being able to provide a safe and relaxed environment for learning, especially for the more nervous students. I will, within reason, travel to teach lessons as well.
I’ve been offering comprehensive and affordable private lessons in Salisbury for a few years now. The piano is, and always has been, a passion of mine, and it brings me joy to be able to share this passion with my students. From day one, they will learn important foundational techniques to help them boost their skills and self-esteem. No individual is the same as another, and everyone will learn at different paces. It is important to me to keep lessons fun and enjoyable, whilst retaining the importance of good practice and technique. The importance of musical literacy is sometimes overlooked and I'm a strong believer that music theory is as important as the practical skill. I will wherever possible look to introduce pupils to a realistic level of music theory in relation to, and alongside, their practical lessons as quickly as possible (at no additional cost!).
